Respondus Quiz is an assessment software for quickly creating and managing exams or quizzes that can either be printed and distributed as paper copies or imported to a Canvas course.

Getting started How do I get started?

Respondus Quiz offers several different formats for creating quizzes. Consider which ones are most relevant for your course.

Setup

Instructors who have not used Respondus Quiz can download it using the following steps:

Download Instructions

  1. Go to the: Software Distribution site, and sign in with your CWL.
  2. Select "Respondus Quiz" from the Teaching & Learning tab.
  3. Click "Add to Cart", then "Check Out".
  4. Follow the prompts until you reach an Order Summary screen with a download link.

Note that the authoring software currently only works on the Windows platform.

Please take note of the following when they appear during the download process (you will need this information when installing the software):

  • Institution Name: University of British Columbia
  • Local Support Contact(s): lt.hub@ubc.ca
  • Installation Password

Note: You will need to create or open a Respondus file before you will be able to access the Preview & Publish tab.

  1. In the Start tab, click the drop-down menu beside Current Personality and select Canvas.
  2. Click the Preview + Publish tab > Publish > Publish Wizard.
  3. In the Canvas Server drop-down menu, select -add new server-.
  4. Select No, I want to enter the server settings manually.
  5. Click Next.
  6. In the field next to the button Extract, enter https://canvas.ubc.ca/api/respondus/soap .
  7. In the Description field, enter a name for the server connection (eg. My Canvas Server).
  8. In the User name and Password field, enter your CWL username and password.
  9. Click OK.

From there, you can close the Publish Wizard window.

Publish Assessment to a Canvas Course

Note 1: You will need to create or open a Respondus file before you will be able to access the Preview & Publish tab. Note 2: You can only published Graded Quiz or Question Bank.

  1. In the Start tab, either create a new assessment or open up an existing one from a Respondus file.
  2. Click the Preview + Publish tab > Publish > Publish Wizard.
  3. In the Canvas Server drop-down menu, select the server you set up.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click OK on the pop-up, and a login page pop-up will appear.
  6. Log in with your CWL.
  7. When prompted if Respondus can access your account, click Authorize.
  8. There should be another pop-up. Click OK.
  9. On step #2, select Create and give the assessment a name if you would like to publish the assessment as a new item, or select Replace to override an existing one in your Canvas course.
  10. Click Next.
  11. If you selected Create in Step 9 above, select the course (folder) you would like to publish the assessment.
    • If you selected Replace in Step 9 above, navigate through the course folders and select the assessment to replace.
  12. Click Next.
  13. Wait for the assessment to finish publishing. Once finished, you should see the line "-- Publish Completed Successfully --".
  14. Click Finish.
